Gary Griffith of Cross Lanes Passes

Gary Bruce Griffith, 78, of Cross Lanes, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2022.

He was born August 9, 1943, in Tornado to the late Rome and Mary Griffith. He was also preceded in death by his sister Patsy Ann Griffith Wallace.

Gary retired as manager at WW Grainger, with 22 years of service. He worked as Head Custodian at Dunbar Middle School, and retired as a carpenter with Kanawha County Schools. He returned to work with the children he loved so much, he encouraged them to work hard and do better. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed trapshooting. In 1976 and 1977 he won the WV Doubles and the All-Around Championships. In 1979 he won the WV State Trapshooting competition. He taught his grandsons at a very young age gun safety. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and teaching his grandsons.

He was a US Navy Veteran. He loved playing his mandolin and guitar.

He was a faithful member of Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, when he was able. At other churches during his lifetime, he was an ordained deacon, Sunday school Superintendent, devotional leader and adult Sunday school teacher.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Rose Marie Griffith of Cross Lanes; daughter, Lisa Barnette (Tim) of St. Albans; sister, Regina Leftwich of St. Albans; brothers, Rodger Griffith (Debbie) of Teays Valley and Karle Griffith (Linda) of Tornado; grandchildren, Cameron and Keaton; his God-given daughter, Racheale and her children, Reagan, Robert, Cameron, Sunshine and Savannah, whom he loved as his own grandchildren. Racheale provided him with loving care during the last year.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Tom Price officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service.
