12th Annual Hall Of Fame Shoot in Moundsville Results

What a beautiful weekend!

The grounds were in impeccable condition.

Sixty four shooters came to the facilities of Marshall County Hunting and Fishing Club for the shoot dedicated to the WV ATA Hall of Fame members and to induct yet another deserving WV member, Douglas Damron from Huntington WV.

WVATA Vice-President Chuck Jackson presented Doug with the WV Hall of Fame plaque. Doug thanked friends and shooters for the honor.

 Doug's friend ATA All American Carl Chadwell and his wife Nora rode from Michigan to Moundsville on Carl's Harley Softail to attend  Doug's induction. That's a 860 mile roadtrip!

Saturday's weather could not have been nicer, sunshine and blue skies greeted the fifty two shooters that participated  in the Doug Damron Singles Championship. When it was over, two stood at the top. One of Ohio's top shooters Ron Smith and WV's current State Singles Champion Nicholas Harden both breaking 198's went to the shoot-off line. After three flawless rounds of smoked targets, Smith dropped one early in the fourth round and Harden finished out the round to become the 12th Annual Hall Of Fame Singles Champion. Ron Smith took Class A honors, Class B laurels went to Michael Tenley breaking 194, his first win. Class C winner was Waverly, WV resident Roger Taylor; Class D was Huntington's James Marcum. Category winners include Sandra Spencer, Lady with a 196, Doug Damron a 197 to secure Senior Veteran, Darrell Dowler broke 194 to top all Veterans and Braden Carroll was crowned Junior/SubJunior with a high score of 178.

The Hall Of Fame lunch was provided for all that participated and was of the highest quality. Hamburgers, hotdogs, green beans, noddles with all the fixings and best of all deserts, cake, pie, brownies etc. no one left hungry. Our appreciation and thanks to the men and women who prepared the delicious lunch.

Preliminary Handicap

 Terry Groves of Oakhill, WV topped all shooters with a 97 from the 21.5 yd. to secure Preliminary Handicap Champion Trophy. The trophy is new this year, thank you to Russell Lillard of Superior Industrial Laundries. One back was Michael Tenley winning his second trophy of the weekend breaking a 96 from the 20.5 yd line winning the 18-21.5 yardage group. Lonnie Spencer bested Phil Andes after deadlocking at 91 in a one round shootoff. Dennis Cooperrider lead the 25-27 yd group with a 95. Thank you to Marshall County HFC who donates the yardage group trophies for the Preliminary Handicap yardage groups.

Sunday was a little warmer copy of Saturday, Darrel Murray of Mineral Wells and Cameron Bailey of Paw Paw were shooting on the same squad both ended with the same score of 95 in the Bill Young Doubles Championship. After a one round shootoff, Cameron took the Doubles Title and Darrel relgated to Class A honors. Phil Andes broke 93 for the Class B top spot and Robert Bredniak broke 87 for Class C victory. Marshall County HFC also donates $50.00 added money to each class split 50%/30%/20% High Gun.

The Bill Howdershelt Championship Handicap saw Leon Lowther of Whitehall, WV break a 98 from the 18.5 to lead all shooters by two birds for the championship buckle. Two back was WVATA President Scott Ross with a 96 from the 27. Phil Andre kept on his winning ways shooting a 93 for the win in the 22 - 24 yardage group.  Marshall County HFC member Kenneth Lilley smashed a 95 from the 21.5 for the 18 - 21 yardage group laurels. Curt Paul was high in  Veteran and David Holman in the Senior Veteran Categories. Sandra Spencer swept the Ladies Category and Morris Todd was high in the JR / SJ Category.

High All Around was tied at 384 between WVATA Treasurer Steve Sprout and 2016 WV State Doubles Champion Cameron Bailey with Bailey the victor after the shootoff.

Larry and Kenney Lilley generously donated a top notch Belt Buckle, the Emerson Lilley Memorial Trophy, in honor of their father and 2001 Inductee in the WVATA Hall Of Fame. This award went to this years high combined score of the Event 1,2 and 4 which was Steve Sprout with a 383.

The WVATA thanks everyone that donated money and trophies as well as those who gave of their time, which is invaluable, to make this a successful shoot. Thank you!

A special thanks to Linda Viderman who has taken on running the shoot computer for the this shoot and the WV State Shoot. This was Linda's first live shoot and she performed outstanding! We look forward to working with her at the State Shoot. The classification table was manned by WVATA Delegate Nicholas Harden, Squadding handled by Mark Isner, Cashiering by Steve Sprout and Target Setting by Darrel Murray.

   Thank you for the contribution of your time, our shoots would not be possible without the hard work of a great group of people. Thank you also to those who cut the grass, paint the parking stops, paint and load the trap houses and the yardage markers your efforts are much appreciated.

On a sad note our friend Bruce Haislip, is taking chemo treatments. Bruce trained Linda to run the 3S cashiering system. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery. We were also informed, Harley Barr suffered a stroke. Please remember them both in prayer. Mark Isner brought two cards for Harley and everyone signed them. I've included both of their address's below I'm sure they would enjoy receiving a card from their fellow trapshooters.
